week 38: full term

april 13 - 19, 2013
Week 38
pregnancy journal:
Once I hit 37 weeks, which was Saturday, I am now considered full term.  I can deliver at any time now and he will be fully developed and no longer considered premature.  The real countdown is on.  After this week, I will have two weeks left until my due date and I know it is going to fly by.
I went to the doctor again on Monday.  Just another regular check up.  Heartbeat sounded good, no questions and I was on my way.  Be back next week for another visit.
Total weight gain: 23 lbs
(1 lb since last appt)

Throughout the rest of the week, I continued getting things ready for delivery.  My mom and I put a lot of things together that I got from the shower.  We set up the Pack and Play and put it in my bedroom.  This is where he is going to sleep, at least for the first couple of weeks or so.  The Pack and Play also has a changing table on top of it which I stalked up with diapers, wipes, diaper cream and changing pads.  I think Loyal was a little overwhelmed when he finally took a break from work and saw the Pack and Play set up in the bedroom.  Next, my mom and I got the stroller and car seat out of the box and put together.  I am so excited to take him for a walk in the stroller!  It’s one of my favorite baby items.  Loyal helped me install the car seat in the car, which was a lot harder than I expected.  After that, my mom and I washed all of the baby clothes, packed his hospital bag now that the clothes are washed and put the rest back upstairs in the baby closet.

I have been walking so much lately.  I usually go to the park beside my mom’s house in the morning and walk about 2 or 3 miles a day, but no less than a mile and a half.  I really enjoy it.  The weather is amazing right now and especially in the mornings.  It gives me a chance to clear my head and have some time to myself.  Some days I spend the entire walk thinking about how my life is going to change very soon and other days I spend with my head phones in and signing out load since there I am normally by myself.  My morning walks are making me really excited to take the baby on walks in the stroller.  Hopefully it can be part of our daily routine and I won’t embarrass him to much with my singing! :)

Nautical Baby Shower

My baby shower is something that I had dreamed of for a really long time.  I  have always been the DIY type so I planned every single detail from the invitations to the cake, and made all of it myself!  I went with a nautical theme and with a color scheme of navy, white and mint accents.

Invitation:
I designed the invitations first.  I personally feel that the invitations set the tone for the party so I wanted to incorporate my colors and theme.

Decorations:
I made the banner by cutting out triangles from canvas fabric.  I drew the letters freehand with pencil and then painted over.  I sewed white linen cut into strips for the border by just using a basic straight stitch with my sewing machine.  The top piece that connects everything together is the same white linen.  This was probably my favorite project for the party and makes for such a great keepsake!

Diaper cake:
The bunting on the top is made from scrapbook paper.  The L is made from a wooden letter that I found at Hobby Lobby and painted with the same mint green paint that I used for the banner above.
The paper straws I bought off Etsy and painted the mason jar lid with the same paint.  The striped ribbon is from Walmart and the mint is from Etsy.

The mint green frame I painted as well.  The frame was from Hobby Lobby in the craft section, not the frame section.
More from my maternity shoot here.

Food:
My mom and I made all of the food ourselves.  Talk about a long day in the kitchen!

Dessert table:
I made the cake myself.  This was my first fondant cake and after researching every tutorial on Pinterest that I could find, I'm really happy with how it cam out!  I bought navy gel food coloring from Hobby Lobby and dyed some of the white fondant for the strips and anchor.  I found the cake stand at Home Goods the day before the shower, navy ribbon included!  Talk about meant to be!  I'm and of obsessed with this cake.  So much so that I didn't cut the cake at the shower.  I honestly forgot because we also had cupcakes but, oops!

The cupcakes are pistachio flavor.  I made the toppers in Photoshop, cut them out and glued them to a tooth pic.

Tassel garland is made out of tissue paper.  White, mint, and silver were from Walmart.  I had a hard time finding the right shade of navy that I was looking for but eventually found it on Etsy.

Of course I had to match :)

Favors:
Cake Pops!  These are my specialty!  Tutorial here.
I made the thank you tags in Photoshop.  Navy ribbon is from Walmart.  The inside is chocolate fudge cake.  I got the mint colored sprinkles from Michael's.  It was around Easter so I'm not sure if they always have this color.

Gifts
So many amazing gifts from all of my friends.  I really do have the best group of girlfriends!  Thank you to everyone who came and made my first baby shower so special and better than I could have ever expected! Xo!

week 37: showered with love

april 6 - april 12, 2013
Week 37
pregnancy journal:
This week kicked off with my baby shower on Sunday.  It was such a great turn out.  Everyone came and we had the best time.  I was shocked at how many really great gifts that I got from my family and friends.  I really do have some of the best girlfriends that I could have ever asked for.  Everyone was so genuinely happy for me and so excited to meet the baby.  That afternoon you could definitely feel the love in the room and it was all for him!

Monday morning I had a doctor’s appointment.  My best friend, Jenn, flew in town for my shower and since she was still here, she came with me.  I was really excited for this appointment because they would be checking my cervix and also doing an ultrasound to check the baby's position and weight.  We did the ultrasound first and he is head down!  My fluid levels looked great, baby is healthy and weighs about 6 pounds 3 ounces.  This was all such great news.  I guess when he measured bigger than normal at the last ultrasound it was just because of a growth spurt.  Now he is right back on track.  After the ultrasound, we met with the doctor.  She checked my cervix and I was 1 centimeter dilated and 70% effaced.  I had a feeling that I had dilated.  I’m not sure exactly why I felt that way but I did.  I also feel like he is getting lower.  Before, his butt was right underneath my rib cage and now it’s a little lower, more towards the center of my stomach.

Total weight gain: 22 lbs
(3 lbs since last appointment)

The rest of this week was attributed to getting everything ready for the baby's arrival.  I started with organizing everything that I got from the shower and deciding what I still needed.  I separated everything I had into groups and took it up to the baby closet.  I made one big trip to Babies R Us and got everything else that we need.  I’ve had such a long list of things to get done but couldn’t get to it until the shower was behind us.  It feels good to start crossing stuff off.  Pretty soon I’ll have nothing left to do but sit back, relax and wait for my sweet baby boy to make his d├ębut!

I can not say enough about how pleased I am with these pictures.  I had a vision in my head long before I got pregnant.  Stacy really made my dreams come true with every single shot.
Here is the blog post she did on my session:
and now for the pics...

Between narrowing these down from over 100 and being up to my ears in baby laundry, this was a difficult post!  I wish I could post all 100 of them because I love every single one!  Now go book with Stacy!!!!!

week 36: dream come true

march 30 - april 5, 2013
Week 36
{pregnancy journal}
I have noticed this week that my hips are getting really sore when I sleep at night.  I am really stiff when I get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and especially first thing in the morning.  He is getting so big in my belly.  I don’t really feel kicks anymore.  It’s more like him pushing very firmly on the inside of my stomach, which can hurt at times.  He gets the hiccups just about every night now.
April 1st was a big day for me.  My little pup turned nine years old.  I still remember the day I got her like it was yesterday.  Her personality was so apparent from the first day I met her.  It makes me wonder what the baby will be like.  I am getting so anxious to meet him.  I know that having a baby will be so much different than having a pet but I can honestly say that having Lilly for the past nine years has taught me so much.  She has taught me how to love and care for someone with everything I have in me and with that, I know I will be a good mommy.

April 1st was also the day that I did my maternity pictures.  This was something that I had been looking forward to since long before I got pregnant.  I knew exactly what I wanted and I have to say that the photographer captured it 100%.  Kelli came with me to help and make sure everything looked good and I was really happy for her to be there.  Once I got the pictures back and saw them, it was such a dream come true.

week 35: getting big

march 23 - march 29, 2013
Week 35
{pregnancy journal}
My belly is getting bigger by the week these days.  I can no longer see my feet when I look down.  Some days I feel huge but other days I still feel like I am carrying rather small.  Every once and a while, people will tell me that I look bigger than I did a couple days before.  When I left New Orleans everyone agreed that I had grown since I got there.  I’m still not really sure how I feel about “growing” so much.
I had a doctor's appointment on Monday.  This was another routine checkup.  I told the doctor that I was still having rib pain and that I was worried it was because of the baby's head.  She started pressing on my stomach pretty firmly to see if she could tell what it was.  Apparently the butt is a little softer than the head but after all of the pressing, she couldn't really tell.  As soon as she was done pressing and poking my stomach, the baby gave this monster kick, so hard that my whole belly shook!  It was pretty funny.  We will do an ultrasound at my next appointment to check his weight and see what position he's in so I guess I will have to wait until then.
Total weight gain: 19 lbs
(1 lb since last appt)
Lately I feel like I have started nesting.  I have been working so hard on crafts and decorations for my baby shower.  I have always been creative and I love doing stuff like this.  It feels so different and so special knowing that this is all for my baby boy.  Aside from the baby shower stuff, I have also started to organize everything which is something that I have heard a lot of women do towards the end.  I made the spare closet upstairs the "baby closet" and it has all of our baby stuff in it.  I put away all of the gifts that we've received and have started getting everything ready for when he gets here.
This week my step sister, Dawn, came in town.  Me, Loyal and Kelli went to my Dad's for dinner and to visit with her.  I haven't seen Dawn since our wedding so it was really great to see her and spend some time with her.  It had definitely been way too long!  She brought us some gifts for the baby.  One of them was a beautiful blanket that she made by hand.  I couldn't believe that she made it!  She picked out the colors and without even knowing it, they match the nursery perfectly!  Such a sweet and special gift!

week 34: pineapple

march 16 - 22, 2013
Week 34

it is getting to be the time for the baby to move into head down position.  i always feel a big round body part right underneath the right side of my rib cage.  i feel it there all the time and it has been giving me rib pain for weeks now.  it's either a head or a butt and i'm praying that it's a butt.  i would much rather have a vaginal birth rather than a c-section and just the thought that it might be a head makes me so nervous.  aside from the round lump that never goes away, there is always a knob poking out of my left side!  sometimes times it pokes out so hard that it's painful.  oh, i am dying to know what these parts are!
at the beginning of this week we went to new orleans to visit family.  while we were there, we celebrated st. patty's day and went to loyal's sisters house for a crawfish boil and baby shower!  so much fun!!

st. patty's day: uptown, new orleans

i think loyal had fun at "the first baby shower he's ever been to"

and now for the crawfish... Untitled Untitled

we got some really great gifts and had such a great time with family and friends.  my sister got to try crawfish for the first time, which was a success!
