week 24: ear of corn

Week 24
i must say that this is one of my favorite baby tags so far!  i just love the little corn, so cute!  i feel like things are really starting to progress at this point.  i feel like my belly is growing more and more each week.  i also feel hungrier than i did a couple of weeks ago.  i get hungry faster in between meals.  i also feel like the movement and kicking has really ramped up too!  i feel him moving so much now.  i have also found the energy and motivation to go back to the gym.  i swore to myself that i would go as soon as my 12 appointment passed.  well, that came and went.  oh well, better late than never i guess.  maybe it was the new shoes that loyal bought me!  either way, i feel so good after i work out!  it gives me so much more energy and i swear i consider cleaning the entire house every time i leave the gym.  i always find better things to do of course.

22 weeks, 4 days

i had a doctor's appointment this past week so i flew home to atlanta for that.  i was at the doctor for no more than 30 minutes.  after the weighed me (gained 7 lbs in the last 5 weeks thanks to the holidays) and checked my blood pressure, i saw the doctor.  she asked me how i was feeling, heard the heartbeat and that was it.  at the next appointment i will be doing the gestational diabetes testing and a 3D ultrasound which i am super excited about!!!
one of the highlights of this week was getting the rest of our outfit that we will bring him home in!  i ordered it online and had it shipped to my moms house so i got it while i was home.  i am so obsessed with it, especially the blanket!!!  navy and white seem to be the theme we are going with for this, along with polo, clearly.

we got the coverall at nordstrom but i found the matching hat and blanket at belk, online.  they were both on sale when i bought them.

week 23: happy new year

well, i'm a little behind again.  i'll be 24 weeks tomorrow.  i guess with traveling over christmas, new years and going home this week for a doctor's appointment, i have been a little busy.
Week 23
see what i mean about behind, new years seems like weeks ago at this point.  maybe it's just me.
anyway, back to last week...
i realized this week that i am a lot hungrier than i have been throughout my pregnancy so far.  i haven't noticed much of a difference in my appetite until now.  i feel like i can eat more than i used to without getting full and i get hungry quicker in between meals now.  some days i feel like i could stuff my face all day.  i don't, obviously, but the rest of this pregnancy is going to take some serious discipline.
another symptom popped up this week too, rib pain.  i kept having this pain, sort of like pressure, in my ribs right below my breasts.  it's usually stronger on the right side.  i did a little research about it and it seems pretty common, especially on the right side.  from what i read, as your uterus continues to grow, it puts pressure on your ribs.  excellent.
the body pillow i bought last week seems to be working pretty well so far.  i don't have as much pain in my hips throughout the night and some nights, none at all.  my back still hurts at night but i think that might be from being on my feet most of the day.  usually, if i sit up very straight, i feel the most comfortable.  that seems to get difficult at the end of the day when i'm tired and lazy.
here is the body pillow i got: Boppy Circle Cuddle Pillow
i have also notcied that the baby has become much more active.  it seems like he is moving more and sleeping less.  hope that's not a sign of what's to come.  :/  another characteristic that he has started to show us is that he seems a little shy.  every time i try to get loyal to come and feel him moving, he stops.  i guess he doesn't like the attention.  sounds like his dad!
new year's eve
sooo, the highlight of this week was new years!  we made plans to go to a new restaurant near where we are staying, about 30 minutes away.  i was a little worried about being up until midnight since i am usually in bed by 9:30 these days.  i made dinner reservations for 9 in an attempt to be up for midnight.  we got dressed up and left the house early because loyal wanted to stop for a drink before going to the restaurant.  the only restaurants close to us are applebees, long horn, and one other that i can't even remember.  we stopped at applesbees for a drink and an appetizer.  at this point it was about 7:30.  i was starving, getting tired and definitely second guessing our plans for the night.  the next thing i know, we are on the phone canceling our dinner reservations, eating dinner next door at long horn, home by 10 and managed to forget to take any pictures at all.  it was a mutual decision to cancel and go home early.  luckily, loyal is usually on board with stuff like that since he's pregnant too, lol.  we always joke that he got all the symptoms that i did, especially when it comes to going to bed early.  we tried so hard to stay up but ended up falling asleep before midnight.  oh well.  we'll try again next year i guess.
happy new year!

Slow Cooker Pork and Sauerkraut

Growing up, my Dad made pork and sauerkraut for New Year's Day every year.  Being away from home this year, I wanted to try making myself it for the first time.  My Dad always cooked his in the oven but I wanted to try this recipe in the crockpot.  The pork came out so moist and tender with the perfect amount of flavor and juice from the sauerkraut.  The crockpot was a success and this meal started off my new year feeling like I was home again!

8 hrs cook time

Ingredients:
2 potatoes
1 onion
32 oz jar of sauerkraut
pork loin
salt and pepper
seasoning

Directions:
Peel and dice 2 potatoes.  Add to bottom of the slow cooker along with the onion, diced as well.  These are basically just to create a "blanket" for the pork to rest on because in my opinion, it cooks better that way.  I used different potatoes for the mashed ones and threw these away.
Season the pork.  I used salt and pepper, Tony's seasoning and a pork rub that I had in the pantry.  Add a little oil to a skillet and brown the pork on all sides.  I did about a minute or two for each side.  Lay on top of potatoes.
Cover with entire jar of sauerkraut, do not drain.  Season with salt and pepper.
Cook on low for 8 hours, stirring occasionally.
Remove and serve when ready.
The pork should just fall apart!
...
This was the first year that I wasn't working for New Year's Eve and I couldn't have been more excited about it.  The only problem was, I go to bed at 9:30 these days.  We tried our best to make it to midnight but, unfortunately, I was sound asleep by 11:15.  Thanks to someone shooting off fireworks, the dogs woke us up at what I thought was sure to be 4 in the morning but, it was 12:08 am.  I guess we had just missed midnight.  We calmed the dogs down, said "Happy New Year" and went back to sleep.  The next morning I realized that I completely forgot to drink the sparkling cidar that I bought for myself.  Bummer.  Oh well, "mimosas" are just as good.  Cheers!

hello 2013

looking back on some amazing memories in 2012
IMG_0804
this past year really had some great moments.  graduating college was a huge milestone for me.  i think that overall 2012 brought me so much closer to my friends and family, and especially my husband.  moving to texas to finally be back together as a little family was one of the best moments of my life.  i felt more like newlyweds than after we got married.  with that being said, i am so glad that we had such an amazing time together this summer.  our last summer as a family of 2 because this past august we got the best news ever, we are expecting! original post here.  that was probably the highlight of 2012 for me.  finding out our little baby is a boy was just the icing on the cake, the best cake ever. :)

i must say that 2012 was amazing but, 2013 is our year.

week 22: christmas 2012

Week 22
while i was thinking about symptoms to talk about this week, they started flooding my mind.  i feel like my pregnancy is now in full effect.  i have to blow my nose every morning and it is usually a little bloody.  i can no longer bend over to pick something up, i have to squat.  i'm guessing my uterus is too big.  i'm starting to get out of breath when i have to lean over to put my shoes on, can't wait for flip flop weather.  my back has started hurting often and sleeping has become very uncomfortable.  i finally bought a body pillow so hopefully that will help with the back pain, hopefully.  on a brighter note, IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!

we got to new orleans on sunday afternoon.  after we left the airport, we spent some time with our friends bobby and tracee.  they are so awesome.  they gave us so many tips and great advice.  tracee even gave me a tour of her diaper bag since i told her i had literally been having dreams about it.  they had a baby girl this past may so it has been very cool to see everything they have gone through since we will be on the same track next year.  they got us a couple baby outfits and we are so obsessed with them!  they are so cute!!!
BT Clothes

we had a great time in new orleans with family and friends, good food, awesome gumbo (4 bowls of it for me!) and between the shopping, gifts and clothes from loyals three nephews, we come home with so much stuff!

until next time new orleans

...

so when it came time to go home, we had a layover in cincinnati.  we got there at 11:30 am and by 4 in the afternoon, we were still at the airport.  omg, it was awful.  apparently the de-icing part of the plane we were supposed to get on may or may not have been working.  they kept delaying our takeoff to run a bunch of tests until they finally canceled it.  meanwhile, the snow kept coming down so we were starting to get a little concerned about whether we would even be able to fly out the next day.  either way, we were staying the night in ohio.

our hotel ended up being right beside a mexican restaurant so that's where we ended up, of course.  we were back at the airport the next morning, exactly 24 hours later.  this time, our plane wasn't broken and we were able to fly out!  whew, thank goodness because this mama missed her sweet little puppies!

week 21: banana

a little behind...
december 15 - 21, 2012
Week 21
baby is the size of a banana!!!  this is just too cute in my opinion.  apparently little babe is about 8 or 9 inches long which seems so big when i think back to him being a tiny little blueberry!  that seems like yesterday at this point, time is really flying by.
i am feeling so much better.  my cold is going away, thank god.  maybe it was the 4 bowls of soup i ate that one night or maybe it was falling asleep at 8:30, lol.  tomorrow we are going to new orleans for christmas.  super excited about it!  but first, we are going to celebrate our christmas together.  we woke up this morning and showed the pups where santa paws left toys for them under the tree.  that's always fun.  i made chocolate chip & peanut butter pancakes which are loyal's fav.  i even threw some sliced bananas on top for the little guy :)
