fur-baby friday!

this week was all about the browns apparently, no pictures of lex.  probably because she's so obsessed with her daddy that the browns are always with me.  here is a perfect example: when i leave they are at the top of the stairs with the most concerned look on their face as if i'm never coming back.  but lex, she could care less as long as loyal is staying...
Fur-baby Friday! Fur-baby Friday! Fur-baby Friday!

gold bar necklace

I am so excited to share this and so in love with my new necklace!!!  I have seen these gold bar necklaces a lot recently, loved them immediately and obviously had to have one.  What should mine say?  That's an easy decision...
I decided to also get a simple gold tear drop shaped necklace to go with it.  Love them layered.

I got both of these necklaces from Etsy.  The store owner is sooo super sweet!  If you "like" her fb page, you get 10% off your purchase and she also posts discounts randomly.  The day I bought mine she posted a 30% off your entire purchase for that day only.  Lucky me!

Update: I finally got around to engraving the tear drop necklace.  Post on that here

atlanta trip

a couple of months ago i planned to surprise my sister by flying into atlanta for her birthday.  talk about a difficult secret to keep.  once it got to the week of i almost had to cut off all communication.  i kept catching myself thinking "oh, i'll just show you when i get there."  i pulled it off and omg she was so surprised!!!  the day before i flew in she told me that she almost cried because all she wanted was to have birthday margaritas with us like we always do.  so that very next afternoon, the day before her birthday, that's exactly what we did.

Lavender Cake Balls

A couple of weeks ago I found some really cute pastel purple sprinkles on clearance at TJ Maxx.  For only $1, I had to have them.  What I was going to do with them, I was on a mission to figure out.

I wanted to take the pastel purple to another level so I decided to make the inside purple also.

I bought regular white vanilla cake that comes in a box and white vanilla icing.  I went to hobby lobby and bought a small bottle of violet food coloring and also a small bottle of bright pink.

First: prepare the cake mix as directed on the box.  I started with about 3 or 4 drops of purple.
The purple came out a little on the grey side so I added 1 drop of the bright pink to brighten it up.  You may need to add more or less of the purple and pink to get the color you are wanting.
Bake the cake according to time on the box.
The top came out brown but the inside was perfect purple!
I scrapped off the top layer with a tooth pic because I didn't want the brown to mess up my color, it was a little crunchy anyway.  After that, I cut the cake into small squares to let it cool faster.  After a little while I transferred it to a large bowl, crumbled it into tiny pieces and let it cool completely.

Next step: icing
Add the food coloring the same way you did with the cake batter until you get the color you want.
If your cake mix came out a little dull then brighten up the icing so that they balance each other out after mixing.
Tip: I emptied the icing into a tupperware for easier mixing.

Add about half of the icing to the crumbled cake mix and mix together.  You might need to use your hands with this part and don't forget to remove your rings!
Roll your cake into small to medium sized balls.  Put them into the freezer for 10 or 15 minutes before coating.  This helps them stay together better but don't let them freeze or they will crack!

Dip them into candy coating or melted white chocolate and decorate!
As you can see, the inside is purple too :)
Why not throw in some lavender nail polish to really get you in the mood...

I wish I could say that I made these for an awesome baby shower, bridal shower or some sort of party but unfortunately I didn't have one of those coming up.  Instead, me and the hubbs ate these by ourselves.  Hope you like these as much as I enjoyed sharing them and thanks for stopping by!

Update: here is another cake pop post that I did.  Cake pop baby shower favors.

top 5: summer fav's

Every day I think to myself about how much I am ready for fall.  The clothes, the weather, the food...shall I continue?  No, because here we are...
right in middle of summer.

1. Summer waves
Summer Waves
and by waves, I am unfortunately not talking about the beach.  Darn.  BUT, the next best thing from the beach would be that wavy Victoria's Secret beach hair!  It looks good down and even in a pony tail.  I really love doing my hair like this, and if I add a little dry shampoo I can usually stretch it for a few days without washing.

2. Margartia nights
Margarita Nights
Rita's are a staple in my family but a good frozen marg to beat this summer heat is a must!  We go out for mexican and marg's at least once a week.  Seriously, cannot live without!!!

3. Brights & whites
Brights and Whites
white skinny jeans in the summer...yes please!  Brights are really in this summer too, especially neons.  And so is mint.
Brights, whites, and a little mint...perfect.
Arm Party
might as well throw an arm party in there too :)

4. Summer salads
Summer Salads
I love salads in the summer and soups in the winter.  I especially love spinach, throw in some fruit and you've got yourself a salad!

Spinach salad:
grilled chicken
fresh strawberry
sliced almonds
bleu cheese crumbles
balsamic vinagrette

5. Frozen yogurt
Frozen Yogurt
One of my guilty pleasures, enough said.

Five and a half weeks left of summer.  Hurry up fall!

Slow Cooker Baby Back Ribs

Slow Cooker Sunday's:
Baby Back Ribs
8 hours cook time

pork ribs (I used 3.5 lbs)
1 container BBQ sauce
1 small onion
pork seasoning rub
salt & pepper
garlic powder
Tony's seasoning
cayenne pepper

Cut onion into slices and place in the bottom of your slow cooker.
Rub all seasoning onto ribs and place in slow cooker, on top of onions.  I kind of made a triangle out of mine so that they were not on top of each other.
Pour BBQ sauce over ribs and cook on low.

{add corn after 6 hours}
Salt and pepper corn (I also used a little butter spray before so that the s&p would stick) and then wrap tightly in tin foil.  Place in slow cooker and cook for the remaining 2 hours.

Remove and serve when ready.

This meal was really easy and came out so tender and yummy.  The meat was literally falling right off the bone before I could even get the ribs out of the crock pot.  This was my first time making corn on the cob, much less in the crock pot...turned out great!
